This May Stonyfield Organic is teaming up with friends at prAna sustainable clothing to celebrate #TheWholeYou!
Spring has finally arrived here in the northern part of the U.S., and being outside has become an utter joy. Each day new flowers bloom, making the yard a fabulous place to kick back and revel in the wonders of nature. I so wish the weather were always like this!
That these perfect days are fleeting makes it even more important to make the most of them. Treat yourself to some being-in-the-moment enjoyment of this special time of year.
I like to get into some comfy clothes and have a bite to eat on the porch, where I can take in the scent of the apple blossoms, listen to the birds, and feel the warmth of the sun. That my food and clothing choices support companies with sustainable business practices lets me enjoy my purchases so much more!
The warm glow when you eat something that nourishes good health is all the more delightful when you know not only that your food, your clothing, and your home are free of harmful chemicals, but they didn’t leave a wake of environmental degradation. Our health, as I’m sure you’re aware, depends on the health of the planet.
I’m always thrilled to discover another company that’s decided to do good while they make great products. This month, Stonyfield has joined forces with prAna sustainable clothing to promote #TheWholeYou, a campaign aimed at helping us be in the moment without worrying about what’s in our food or clothing. (Check out the discount code at the bottom of the post to save on some of prAna’s amazing clothing!)
So grab a healthy snack (Stonyfield yogurt, anyone?) and take a moment to relax and learn about some terrific companies that helping to make the world a better place.
Stonyfield and prAna: Sustainable companies making great products AND doing good!
Isn’t it wonderful when you can feel good about what you’re consuming? There’s so much bad news out there about companies polluting or including ingredients in food that have no business being there.
The leading organic yogurt company, Stonyfield avoids toxic pesticides, antibiotics, GMOs, and artificial hormones. They also do what they can to limit the environmental impact of not only their yogurt, but also their packaging and distribution. They just became a B Corporation as another way to show their commitment to “healthy people and a healthy planet.”
My favorite way to enjoy Stonyfield Organic yogurt is in healthy and delicious smoothies, made with vegetables, frozen fruit, and some chia seeds. They’re a fantastic source of protein and probiotics from Stonyfield’s terrific yogurt, plus all the nutrients and fiber in the produce and seeds. When the garden gets going, I like to forage for the greens I use in my smoothie. (Check out my recipe for anti inflammatory purslane smoothie if you’re curious. Sounds a little odd, I know, but I promise, it’s quite tasty!)
The only thing smoothie-worthy growing right now is violets, so in they go! The leaves are a mild-tasting green, and the flowers are a beautiful and edible garnish. A healthy yogurt smoothie made with local ingredients and organic yogurt — the perfect way to celebrate spring!
Sustainable Apparel
Though it’s not something many of us think about, our clothing can have a surprisingly large environmental impact. Did you know clothing is one of the top three water polluters worldwide? prAna has made impressive commitments that give their clothing a wonderfully small footprint. Their super-stylish clothing is made from materials like:
- Certified organic cotton
- Recycled wool
- Hemp
- Responsible down
They also participate in programs like Bluesign, which certifies that textiles don’t pollute our precious waterways. They’ve just launched a partnership with the Renewal Workshop to use apparel that would otherwise wind up in the landfill. They’re trying to close the loop in the apparel industry.
They also carry Fair Trade certified products and belong to the Fair Labor Association. They even ship their clothes without plastic bags to cut their use of plastic, and they try to limit the impact of the forest products they use. At their headquarters, they aim for energy efficiency, buy carbon offsets, compost, and use recycled paper products, You can read more about PrAna’s commitment to sustainability here.
prAna sent me one of their beautiful Amelie dresses so I could see for myself how sustainability, comfort and fashion can go hand in hand. Made from 45% recycled polyester, the fabric is super-soft and incredibly comfortable — like wearing yoga pants out to dinner!
I love that I can wear this dress for when I want to look a little more dressy than usual, but because it’s stretchy and durable, I can still chase kids at the park!
Out taking in the wonders of a beautiful spring day — so much to observe in our yard!
This sustainable dress is a welcome addition to my wardrobe, so I can be comfortable but still well-dressed for the picnics, festivals, and walks we’ll enjoy together this summer. And the fact that it’s made by a company that values environmental stewardship makes me love it so much more!
So grab a healthy snack from Stonyfield and check out some of prAna’s gorgeous designs and fabulous line of activewear!
They’ve even got a special offer for you to take 15% off your order! Use code WHOLES17HGS at prAna’s website through May 31.
